Norton Spring Photo Contest2021-03-22T00:00:00Calling all amateur photographers! The Norton Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Spring Photo Contest. Contestants are invited to submit their best spring photo taken within Norton’s city limits (this includes Flag Rock Recreation Area). Age groups include: 12 and younger and 13 and older. Best photos will win prizes.
Contest Rules: Photos must be taken within Norton’s corporate limits. This includes Flag Rock Recreation Area but does not include High Knob Observation Tower. Photos may not be submitted by professional photographers. Photos must be submitted in JPEG format to rmiozzi@nortonva.org. Photographers can submit up to two photos. Only recent spring photos may be submitted. Submissions must include photographer’s name, age group, a brief description of the photo’s location, and the photographer’s hometown.

Norton Adopt-A-Truck Program2021-04-09T00:00:00The City of Norton will offer an Adopt-A-Truck program at no charge to Norton residents from April 9-19. The program is being offered in conjunction with the annual Great American Cleanup. To request a truck, contact Norton Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Rebecca Iozzi, (276) 679-0754 or rmiozzi@nortonva.org. Residents can have large appliances, furniture, and other items transported from their properties to the proper disposal location. For large loads of trash and tree limbs, residents can make special arrangements for a city truck to be parked overnight at their residences. A driver will return the following morning to take the load to the city shop.

A rain date for the event will be Saturday, April 24. Participants should meet in the parking lot adjacent to the Wise County Chamber of Commerce building (765 Park Ave. SW). All cleanup materials will be provided. Several activities will be held as part of the cleanup. They include: Return a bag filled with litter and receive a gift; A pizza lunch will be provided to all volunteers at noon; A contest for participants to wear their most unique green outfit and receive a prize; and "Riches in the Ditches," which challenges participants to find one of three painted orange water bottles to receive $20.
