Norton Cannon

Norton canon final.jpg

A historic cannon said to be from the U.S.S. Constitution, "Old Ironsides," rests in front of Norton City Hall.

A plaque at the cannon's base states the ship was built in 1797 and was the first U.S. war vessel. It also notes the ship was the winner of the first and last sea battles of the War of 1812.

The plaque also states the cannon was erected in memory of "Wise County Boys Who Gave Their Lives in World War I."

It was dedicated Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1933.
