 SUMMER CAMPS
 Registration forms can be picked up at Norton Elementary and Middle School and at the Norton Parks and Recreation Office. For more information, contact Norton Parks and Recreation Department, (276) 679-0754. Participants must pre-register for all camps. Camp sizes are limited.

 Basketball Camp July 10-13 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Norton Elementary School gym  Open to boys and girls ages 6-12. Campers will learn ball handling skills and fundamentals of basketball. Please wear appropriate clothing. All campers must wear socks and tennis shoes. Instructors: Coach Jarod Coffey and the J.I. Burton High School Girls Basketball Team. Norton City Schools will provide lunch.  Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $40.
 Volleyball Camp July 24-27 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  J.I. Burton High School  Open to any female student who will be in the 6th-9th grade during the 2017-18 school year. Skills include learning and developing basic volleyball skills such as passing, setting, hitting and serving, as well as developing overall athletic skills. All campers must wear appropriate clothes and socks and tennis shoes. Instructors: Coach Laura Potter and the J.I. Burton High School Volleyball Team. Norton City Schools will provide lunch.  Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $40. 
Pottery Camp  July 17-20 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  J.I. Burton High School   Open to children ages 7-12. Participants will learn basic pottery skills, pinch pots, coil pots and pots made on the pottery wheel. Completed pottery can be picked up at a later date. Instructor: Neil Walker. Norton City Schools will provide lunch.  Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $30.
 Outdoor Adventure Camp June 26-29 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Norton Reservoir  Open to grades 7th-12th. Camp will offer water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding, team building exercises (tent construction, mine field and litter carry), fishing techniques, aquatic identification and fly tying, archery, and wilderness survival skills (fire building, using a compass, building a shelter, signaling for help). A mountain bike clinic and trail ride is also offered. Students will be provided a whistle, compass, signal mirror, thermometer and flashlight provided by Pathfinders Outdoor Adventures. Instructors: Mark Caruso, Carol Caruso, Mark Leonard, Jane Sandt, and Shayne Fields. Norton City Schools will provide lunch.  Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $75.
 Engineering Camp Grades K-4th: June 19 and 20. Grades 5th-7th: June 21 and 22.
9 a.m.-1 p.m.   Norton Community Center Grades K-4: Day 1 will focus on "The Magic of Magnets" and Day 2 will focus on discovering electricity basics.
Grades 5-7: Day 1 will focus on "Fascinating Neon" and Day 2 will be "A Day of Exploration and Discovery." Instructor: Jani Purtee. Norton City Schools will provide lunch.
Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $50. 
 Environmental Activity Camp July 31-Aug. 2  10 a.m.-noon Clear Creek Park Open to grades 2nd-5th. Become an environmental detective. Discover who polluted the river. Search for hidden insects in Clear Creek. Identify animal tracks. Design new trash treasures. Instructors: Upper Tennessee River Roundtable and Norton Parks and Recreation Department. Norton Residents: Free.
Non-Residents: $20.

 Independence Day Celebration 7 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 The Norton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor an Independence Day Celebration in Downtown Norton. Festivities will include:
  • A parade sponsored by the Norton Lions Club that will feature your favorite cartoon characters. Entries are needed for the parade. Call Ann Holbrooks at (276) 325-0106. Line up will be on Market Street and the parade will begin at Dairy Queen
  • Freddie Bradley will be playing your favorite songs from 7-10 p.m. 
  • Fireworks will begin at 9:50 p.m. Fireworks are shot off from J.I. Burton High School and the school's stadium will be off limits during the fireworks show due to safety concerns.

Waterslides June and July Waterslides will be at the following locations on the following dates/times:
  • Friday, June 9: Clear Creek Park, noon-4 p.m. Two slides.
  • Friday, June 16: Norton Elementary School (Best Friend Festival), 1-3 p.m. Four slides.
  • Friday, June 23: City Park, noon-4 p.m. Three slides.
  • Friday, July 7: Locust Avenue Park, noon-4 p.m. Two slides.
  • Friday, July 14: Clear Creek Park, Noon-4 p.m. Two slides.
  • Friday, July 21: Locust Avenue Park, noon-4 p.m. Two slides.
  • Friday, July 28: City Park, noon-4 p.m. Two slides.
