The Flag Rock Area Trails mountain bike system currently has about eight miles of track installed, with more miles planned. The system is also open to hikers, trail runners, and other "people-powered" activities.
Trails loop through lush hardwood forests and past towering sandstone cliffs and boulders on the lower slopes of High Knob, a 4,230-foot peak in Southwest Virginia.

Getting Here
There are multiple access points to Flag Rock Area Trails. See the Trails page for a map of the entire trail system. Below are driving directions for accessing each main trailhead.
  • Two trails can be accessed near the Flag Rock Overlook. The Sugar Maple and Magnolia trailheads are located here. Both trails start from a parking lot that also includes two picnic shelters.
  • A second trailhead is located in the gravel parking lot for Norton's Upper Reservoir. Access to three different sections of the trail system can be picked up from here. Click here for directions to this trailhead.
