The City of Norton offers ample opportunities to explore Southwest Virginia's mountains.
Norton's Flag Rock Recreation Area offers mountain biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking/canoeing, and rock climbing.
The city is also a short drive, hike, or mountain bike ride from other outdoor recreation destinations, including the Jefferson National Forest and the 4,230-foot High Knob summit that has an observation tower offering a 360-degree view of distant peaks as far away as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and West Virginia.

 Bike Fish 
The city offers eight miles of Mountain Bike Trails that explore the thousand-acre Flag Rock Recreation Area.
The city offers Fishing at its Upper and Lower Reservoirs.
 Hike  Float
Explore several miles of Hiking Trails in Norton or a short drive from the city.
 Kayak or Canoe Norton's Upper Reservoir or explore other lakes and rivers a short drive from the city.
Climb
 Expansive sandstone boulders and clifflines canvas Flag Rock Recreation Area. Local climbing groups are working to develop bouldering and rock climbing routes in the park. Check back soon for more information on this activity.
