The City of Norton Police Departments K-9 program began operating in the spring of 2009.  The division is comprised of two separate K-9 Units, one Patrol and one Narcotic. 

K-9 Kye and his handler, Officer Matthew Baker, are assigned to the patrol division.  Together they assists with crowd control, warrants service, apprehension of fleeing suspects, building searches, handler protection and tracking.  They are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association and Virginia Police Work Dog Association. 

K-9 Siva and her handler, are assigned to the patrol division with an emphasis on detecting narcotics.  Together they assist in the detection of concealed narcotics during vehicle stops and impoundments, building searches, search warrants and open field searches.  They are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association and Virginia Police Dog Association.
