The City of Norton is located in the heart of far southwest Virginia at the intersection of U.S. 23 (north / south) and Route 58 (east / west), both four-lane highways. U.S. 23 runs south to the Tennessee state line where it becomes Interstate 26 in Kingsport and runs north into Michigan.

Route 58 runs from the western tip of Virginia east to the eastern shore, home of the Port of Hampton Roads. Within a 60-minute drive is easy access to Interstate 81 (runs north to the border of Canada and south into east Tennessee where it intersects with Interstate 40) and Interstate 26 (runs from Kingsport, Tennessee, south to Charleston, South Carolina).

Area Motor Freight Carriers & Overnight Services
There are 30 motor freight carriers that serve the area, including Estes Express, Roadway Express, and ARA / Smith’s. Overnight services are provided by UPS, Federal Express, RPS, and DHL.

Car rental services are provided by Enterprise through a branch located in the City of Norton.

Railway Freight Services
CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway provide rail freight services to the region.

Commercial Air Services
Commercial air service is provided through the Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI), about 58 miles from Norton. TRI is a full-service, commercial airport that serves as a gateway to East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, and parts of Eastern Kentucky. TRI is also a growing transportation center for the region, both in passenger service and cargo. TRI offers nonstop service to six hubs through: Delta Connections (nonstop service to Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Orlando), Northwest Airlink (nonstop service to Detroit and Memphis), and U.S. Airways Express (nonstop service to Charlotte). In addition, on October 18, 1994, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Foreign-Trade Zones Board awarded a Grant of Authority to the Tri-Cities Regional Airport Commission to establish, operate, and maintain FTZ No. 204.

General Aviation Services
General aviation service is provided by Lonesome Pine Airport, located less than 10 miles from Norton. Lonesome Pine Airport is equipped with a 5,400-foot runway and medium density lighting with vasi-beacon lights. Radar coverage from Indianapolis Air Traffic Control offers instrument approaches for inclement weather. The airport provides both aviation gasoline and jet fuel.
