The City of Norton announced will issue a citywide burn ban effective 12:01 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 10. The burn ban will be in effect until further notice.
Dry conditions throughout the month of October and unseasonably high temperatures have caused grasslands and woodlands to be extremely dry, creating a severe fire risk throughout the City of Norton. Uncontrolled open fire poses a serious threat to life and property while the current dry conditions
exist.
The announcement bans all open-air burning in the City of Norton until further notice. It prohibits any person to set fire to, or procure another to set fire to any woods, brush, logs, leaves, grass, debris, or other flammable material within the boundaries of the City of Norton until the fire risk is reduced.
Questions about the burn ban should be directed to the Norton Police Department, (276) 679-1212.
