Service Programs

Child Protective Services (CPS)

CPS includes the receiving of reports of abuse / neglect of children from birth to 18 years of age. Social Services is responsible for determining the validity of these reports. The agency conducts investigations into the matters to determine if there is evidence to substantiate the reports. We identify the service needs for the families who are the subject of the reports and will provide service to enhance child safety and to prevent any further abuse or neglect of the children.

Foster Care

This service provides temporary substitute care for children who cannot safely remain in their own home. The goal of foster care is to provide a safe, secure, alternative home for children. This program provides services to enable the child to return home, if at all possible.

Adoption Services

These services are provided to children, legally free for adoption, to help them become permanent members of a family unit. The agency completes adoptions whether the agency has custody of the child, or it is a nonagency adoption. Registries of families approved for adoption are maintained, and efforts are made to bring these families and children together.

Adult Protective Services

APS receives and investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults over 60 years of age and of incapacitated adults over 18 years of age. This program also provides assistance to persons in need of protective services.

Adult Services

Adult Services are provided to adults to maximize self-sufficiency and to prevent abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation. Services offered include supportive counseling information and referral, facilitating health care, adequate living arrangements and companion services. Services also include prescreenings for nursing home placements and community-based services to enable the adult to remain in his / her home. Initial screenings for adult living facility placements are also provided.

Court-ordered services are ordered by the Juvenile or Circuit Court. These services may include home studies, supervised visits, home supervision, and other services.
